My Football Manager 16 Story #4: Lehman Sports
Isaac Manjon? A cocky and arrogant forward who tries not to train too hard. Jorge Rodriguez? Guy looks like he has a sniper rifle in his leg, but with a small amount of ammunition. Christian Giles? Young player pretty happy with his current status – being a third striker in the team. With such a trio to choose, I couldn’t hope to achieve anything spectacular in Spanish third division. Watching them play gave too many answers to question, why my team struggles to win matches.
Plan was simple – just stay away from relegation zone and wait until next transfer window to open to add some quality strikers to the squad. I was smarter and already know much more about my team after these months of cooperation. I had my ideas, who could be the skeleton of Pena Sports future dream team.
Everything seems to work just as I planned until the end of December, when my whole strategy fell like a house of cards. I went to club building to sign few papers and pick some package for me. There was no one inside. Boss’s office was empty, just as the room where Pena Sports accountant works. I couldn’t let that opportunity slip past my fingers. I walked into the bookkeeping room and began searching through the papers.

I was lucky, although I had nothing to enjoy. Financial report for past month looked disastrous. More than 400 000 euros loss in December alone. My heart was beating faster and faster as I continued to check documents in search for ones confirming the overall balance of the club. Over 1.5 million euros of debt! – I yelled at the piece of paper in my hands. Then I realized, that I’m just asking to get caught. I quickly put everything back in place and left the room. Fifteen seconds later, the president entered the building, with his henchmen Arturo and a stranger. Brucevsky? – boss was obviously surprised by my presence. It’s our coach – he threw up to his companion and brought him to his office. He also nodded at Arturo, who came up to me and gently instructed me to move my butt back to work.
Maybe it’s only 400 000 euro of debt, but still – we’re sinking fast. Way to fast.
I played my part professionally, like some kind of special agent. They couldn’t suspect anything, could they? – I asked myself. In any case, documentation found in the club’s office showed that Pena Sports is losing money like a bag with a giant hole. Maybe my suspicions were true and Pena Sports FC is really a cover for dirty business of mafia? Maybe they already know that I started to discover the truth, and now the smallest mistake will make me disappear in mysterious circumstances?
I had to raise my vigilance and make noise around me. Football noise. There wasn’t much time. Without a good striker I couldn’t dream of good results. And without them, no one would pay any attention to me. So I caught a scout report, which earlier went to Italy. Officially to look for young and talented players, but I think it had something to do with Sicilian gangsters. I found the right candidate, he was, thank God, a free agent. I hope this Biasi will bring nice quality and some goals – I said to myself, dialing the assistant’s phone number…
